The plan is a trip through those lovely mountains in South America. I wandered through the lake district of Chile in 2006 and it's one of most spectacular outdoor spots I've seen. I want to go back and see Patagonia at a gentle pace and soak it in as I go. Bicycle pace is the pace for me. The full route will be from Huanchaco in the north of Peru to Ushuaia in the South of Argentina. A little over 6,000 miles to pedal, 108 days to do it in, and a flight to catch with a day to spare at the end.

Looking to the start
Day one will be 26th August 2010. I'll meet 19 or so other people at sea level in Huanchaco and climb to 3,000 metres in the first three days. My thighs will burn so I must lay off the Guinness and get a bit of practise in before I go.
The definition
The barse. First defined by the Viz. Grandly described by the urban dictionary, not a subject for easy conversation, and now my main concern for the days to follow. Everything else can be worked around but Barse Discomfort can be serious. I'll perhaps convey the BD level numerically henceforth. Sitting comfortably at home now, BD=0. I hope not to have to convey BD=10. The scale is defined.
Helping a little
I'm endeavouring to raise funds for the Red Cross as I travel through some areas that have required assistance, and some areas that could certainly benefit from some external assistance. My fund raising page is here: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Norm.
